OUR VISION

Our goal is to create an ensemble theatre company that would stand equal to other non-disabled theatre projects in terms of excellence of material and presentation. We aim to challenge the norms of the able community and the stigma that disabled people face.  Telling stories offers the possibility of an immediate relationship between disabled people and their audience, and a paradox emerges for the audience with the eloquence and grace with which their voice is offered. Whether the audience then takes notice, reflects and acts differently toward disabled people is an emerging area of promise.

WHY WE DO WHAT WE DO

There is a social need for people with a disability to be both engaged in meaningful occupation and to be seen as vital members of the community, rather than a drain on social resources and not contributing to the community. This common perception is a burden not only on the person with a disability but also to the members of their extended family. It is also patently untrue. The work of Interacting goes some way to rectifying this perception and promoting inclusion.

We would be pleased if you would join us to help fulfil this vision. Interacting welcomes new participants and collaboration with disability service providers.

  • To create an ensemble theatre group of people with a disability
  • To make a unique contribution to the cultural and creative life of the community.
  • To educate the wider community about the lives and experiences of people with a disability and their families.
  • To increase self confidence, independence and self advocacy of people with a disability.
  • To boost their active participation in community life and thence increase their visibility within the community.
